If you haven’t managed to catch The Greatest Showman at the cinema, fear not – it’s available to buy on DVD on 14th May and promises to deliver a heart-warming story of hope and ambition filled with music
Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. And what a true sensation it is!
Initially released in cinemas on 8th December 2017, The Greatest Showman tells the story of an orphaned, penniless but ambitious American, Phineas Taylor Barnum. With his mind crammed with imagination and fresh ideas, the American will always be remembered as the man with the gift to effortlessly blur the line between reality and fiction.
Thirsty for innovation and hungry for success, Barnum eventually manages to open a wax museum but soon shifts his focus to the unique and peculiar, introducing extraordinary, never-seen-before live acts on the circus stage.
At the time some called Barnum’s wide collection of oddities a freak show; however, Barnum ignores the sceptics and gambles everything he has on opera singer, Jenny Lind, to help appeal to a high-brow audience. The move appears to work and audiences are enthralled, but at the same time it also pushes Barnum to distance himself from those he cares most about – his family.
The movie follows Barnum throughout each decision and the impact that it has on him and his family. But will he risk it all to be accepted and gain the celebrity status he craves?
The Greatest Showman is indeed one of the greatest films and is not to be missed! It’s a story of hope, ambition and desire laced with high-energy, uplifting musical numbers to make your heart swell.
Actress Rebecca Ferguson, who plays opera singer Jenny Lind, does not actually sing in the movie.
Hugh Jackman turned down a James Bond role to play P.T. Barnum.
Many of the costumes worn by the circus cast came from the real Barnum Circus.
Zendaya did all of her own trapeze stunts in the film.
