Patrick Reed wins the US Masters 2018 Posted On 09 April 2018

Patrick Reed won his first major golf title yesterday with his victory at the US Masters 2018 in Augusta, Georgia, with a one-shot-win

It was a tight golf tournament at this year’s US Masters, as Reed won his first green jacket. The United States dominated the top three, with Jordon Spieth finishing two back, and Rickie Fowler finishing just one back.

Rory McIlroy had a disappointing final day, and still awaits his career grand slam, despite Augusta’s spectators having passionately put their support behind Brit Rory McIlroy on the first tee, rather than America’s own Patrick Reed, by a ratio of four to one.

But although McIlroy felt the love, Reed had the constitution, holding his ground to take the green jacket, as British and Irish golf’s shining beacon failed to live up to the hopes.

Reed said: “I knew it was going to be tough. Any time trying to close off a golf tournament is really hard but to close off my first major at a place that’s so close to me, being where I went to college, means so much.

“I knew the lead would shrink and grow – it’s just the flows of golf, you have to know how to handle it and the way I could get that done was to make sure the putter was working.”

For England, Justin Rose finished in 12th position on six under, after a final round of 69. Paul Casey came 17th at five under, after shooting a 65 which could have been truly memorable if it wasn’t for bogeying the last two holes.

Welsh representative Ian Woosnam scored a respectable 79 and 76 in the first two rounds, but was unfortunately not applicable for the further rounds.

The 42 year-old legend Tiger Woods closed with a 69, which was his best round of the week, and which ensured he avoided his worst finish at the Masters in 21 years as a professional.
